Students of the university of the West indies are given the privileged opportunity to launch into almost any aspect of society's complex world of work. However more often than usual students fail to accomplish the goals set for the period they registered. Many complain of stress and fatigue.Students always seem to be overworked,underfed and suffering from sleep depravation. but how much of the these added challenges are the students themselves responsible for?

Studdies have shown that proper nutriton or lack thereof impacts greatly on physical and mental abitlities. This is often overlooked by many students.


These are some risk factors associated with poor nutrition:

 

Overweight and obesity are a result of energy imbalance over a long period of time. The cause of energy imbalance for each individual may be due to a combination of several factors. Individual behaviors, environmental factors, and genetics all contribute to the complexity of the obesity epidemic.

 

Heart disease, or coronary heart disease (CHD) happens when your arteries become narrowed through a process called Arteriosclerosis. When this happens the blood and oxygen supply to the heart muscle is restricted, particularly when you exert yourself and the demands of the heart muscle increase

Constipation is the passage of small amounts of hard, dry bowel movements less frequent than three times per week. Individuals who are constipated find it difficult and painful to have bowel movements. They may also feel bloated, uncomfortable and sluggish
A stroke is damage to part of the brain tissue as a result of a loss of blood and oxygen. A stroke can also be called a "brain attack."
